Wet n' Wild Comfort Zone Palette

Drugstore price tag, high-end quality - Is that true in case of Wet n' Wild Comfort Zone Palette? Here's a detailed (picture-heavy) review for the drugstore royalty:

Eye shadows are not a part of my daily makeup routine. Well, there's only so much you could do when you wake up 10 minutes before your office timings :-D But, no, really. I reserve eye shadows for more formal occasions and I'm not much skilled in doing eye makeup as well.

I stumbled upon WnW Comfort Zone palette swatches online and knew I ought to own this baby due to the gorgeous duochrome definer color. I ordered Wet n' Wild Comfort Zone palette from Makeup & Accessories in stock items. Bargain price and superb service, I must say.

WnW Comfort Zone is an 8-eyeshadow palette in plastic packaging with a clear lid showing all the colors. They're divided into two 'sets'. Since the shades have no particular names, I'll refer to them as "Left Set" and "Right Set". It has a double ended mini-brush (not photographed) which is pretty much useless. It didn't help with even the basic 'packing' of the eyeshadow to the lid. With this price, I didn't have high expectations for it either. If it were a choice: I'd rather have a mirror on the lid, than to have this up-to-no-good brush.

Let's have a closer look at each 'set' and their swatches:

Left Set
Right Set

Please excuse the picture quality. My camera stubbornly refused to focus on the 'browbone' shades. And the last one is a cell phone camera picture :-P

Here's my favorite of the bunch - the duochrome 'definer' shadow that has teal and brown double-shade effect. Although teal appears to be prominent in the pan and on the arm-swatch below, it translates into brown with orange undertones on the eyelid. The metallic finish is gorgeous. It has significantly less fallout than other shades and the best pigmentation. On days without the primer, this stayed prominent and strong for good 6 hours.

The 'crease' color in the Right Set moderately black shadow with heavy golden shimmer particles. Its pigmentation is not as intense as I'd like it to be. What I like about this shade is - even with so much glittery base, its fallout isn't bad. I feared it would be difficult to clear the shimmer from my eyes/face while removing makeup, but thankfully it fares well in that. Staying power is around 5 hours with primer and it does fade somewhat at the end of the day.

The 'eyelid' color is a frosty olive green with yellow undertones. It is relatively less pigmented than others, but still amazing. It has metallic finish with no obvious shimmer. For the color to pop, I have to wear it under some white or greenish eyeshadow base. For daily wear or some less formal occasion, you can skip this step. With primer, it stayed intact for over 4 hours at least.

The 'browbone' shade - shimmery off-white - is my most-used eye shadow that highlights the lid really well. It is the most buttery and adequately pigmented to do a good job. Quick tip: It doubles good as a cheekbone highlighter as well (Y) ! You'd need to blend it well and apply carefully because the fallout from this shade is quite bad. With and without primer, its staying power is more than 6 hours.

An arm-swatch of the Right Set, having one swipe each of the browbone and the definer shades. The crease and eyelid colors have been swiped 3 times to show their shade and finish.

Continuing with the Left Set now, it has more "neutral" shades which will be better in routine usage. However, with the right combo, you can amp them up into bold smokey looks as well. First off, the 'definer' shade is dark brown with rusty-reddish undertones with micro-shimmers. The pigmentation and staying power are uh-may-zing! 6+ hours without primer. Be careful because you can easily overdo this shade.

The 'crease' shade is lighter than my liking, but its pale brown color with yellow undertones makes it an excellent 'day-shade' to wear alone one eyelid as well. It would be best for people with wheatish (NC35-40) skin tones. The pigmentation is alright, and it stays for good 5 hours on the lid with noticeable creasing at the end of 3rd hour. P.S. I have oily lids and wore no primer.

Really nice rose-gold hue pinkish 'eyelid' shade that I sometimes use to make my blush 'pop'. For reference, I have textbook HIGH CHEEKBONES (mA), so highlighting experiments are my favorite hobby. :-P ...but I digress. The pigmentation is quite impressive since I didn't expect much out of it and the fallout is the least. It stays on the lid for 6-7 hours without creasing (without primer).

The buttery fallout culprit is the 'browbone' of this set. Although I love how it highlights, you can see in the disfigured blurred shot that you'll have to be really careful in applying and blending it. It's yellowish in the pan, but translates into shimmery off-white when applied. The staying power is 5+ hours without primer.

The arm-swatch with two swipes of all except the definer - which is swiped once.

Here's a bonus shot of me experimenting on my lovely cousin. Thank you, Aqsa for agreeing to be my canvas - more like a SLATE :P! Although none of the shades above are showing, but I primarily used the Right Set. It's a bathroom-front-camera-selfie-with-bad-lighting-and-5-am-fatigue :-D

Summing the looooong review up, I'd say this compact palette offers a range of colors that can be used to create a variety of looks. Minor fallout issues aside, the pigmentation punch packed in the Comfort Zone palette has made a WnW eyeshadow convert! It truly is a drugstore gem.

Wet n' Wild Comfort Zone Palette is priced $5 in US drugstores. People in Pakistan can order via BeautyJoint and Facebook stores. I purchased mine from Makeup & Accessories.

Cheers,

Bia

  1. I loove using this pallete. The one downside is that it doesnt have any matte blending shades. This one is a lot better than Petal Pusher too.
