Makeup Revolution Lip Power

I have been a fan of lip glosses growing up. Since I didn't care much about makeup and wouldn't splurge on anything "fancy", all I had were doe-foot applicator clear lip glosses or a roller-ball version. Both tacky, slippery and... bad. I became a lipstickholic overnight... literally. The stash kept growing and the bank balance kept decreasing :-D Makeup Revolution Lip Power was the first Lipstick-Gloss 2-in-1 product that I tried. I appreciate the idea of such product that you can keep in your small bag for touch-ups without carrying too many tubes. However, I have had past instances where the lip gloss tubes opened in my travel bag and brought a mini heart-attack seeing that "armageddon".
*shudders*
With my skeptical approach to these, how do you think they fared? Let's find out:

Makeup Revolution Lip Power (PKR 550) has 6 shades available exclusively at Reforma.PK and Daraz.PK. It is a 2-in-1 product with a full-sized lipstick on one end and a relatively smaller gloss with doe-foot applicator on the other side. The plastic packaging is sturdy and closes securely. Thankfully, the caps are not loose, as I feared. I have traveled with the two of them and they didn't pose any spill or issue so far.

Makeup Revolution claims it to be a "satin-matte moisturizing" lipstick formula with a "super slick lip gloss with a hint of shimmer". Interestingly, there is nothing related to pigmentation or lasting power of the lipstick/lip gloss in their claim. Before we get a closer look at each shade, I personally felt that the formula of the lipstick varied for each color. Some leaned more matte, while a couple were creamier. Also, just seeing the pictures of the product online does not match what you receive in real. The colors appear darker and richer in photographs than they actually are. I recommend you all check different swatches to be sure.

The shade range is mixed - which I appreciate. Still, I feel like it needed something orange-coral. The one coral pink that they have is not the best-suited for desi skin tones. I can't generalize my experience with these lipsticks. Some worked remarkably well, while the others were not quite there as yet. I did not have high hopes for the glosses, but they managed to woo me - to an extent. So, here we go with an individual rating & review :-)

IT'S MY LIFE - The lipstick is a nude brown color with slight peach undertones when applied. Its gloss is sheer milky nude with lots of fine golden shimmer. Nudes don't fascinate me much, but I have taken a liking to this particular one. It's not opaque in first swipe. It still has decent pigmentation and smooth application. You need a couple of swipes to make it 85% opaque. That works as a nude because your natural lip color peeks through and makes it more wearable. It is worth mentioning that the application isn't streaky, so the semi-opaque coverage is a thumbs up for me. I have used it alone and as an ombre over MAC Mystical. It was a stunning combo as my lips were not washed out by some peachy color or leaned too brown. Both ways, it lasted good for 3 hours and then faded a little. The finish of this shade is satin-matte as described by Makeup Revolution. The shade didn't dry out my lips, but wasn't moisturizing either.
Coming onto the lip gloss part... well, I wasn't psyched about the shimmer in the lip glosses. You know how the residual shimmer settles in your lip lines while the rest travels around the globe. By globe, I mean my face. In lieu of my lesser expectations, I wore the lip gloss over my MAC + Makeup Revolution combo to give it a glossy look. For one, it doesn't shine like an oily and overly shiny lip coat. Plus for me. I didn't find it to be particularly moisturizing or drying over the lipstick or even when worn alone. Interestingly, the shimmer wasn't quite obvious when the lip gloss is applied and didn't leave any sparkly leftover as well (Y).
I have made the most use out of this one shade and I encourage y'all to give it a go if you are also scared of nude lipsticks. This would flatter most fair-medium skin tones with pigmented lips :-) You can always line your lips with a the same shade or just slightly darker than your actual lips and wear a nude shade in the middle. Do blend the harsh lines from inside for an ombre effect.

!!!UPDATE!!! This review was written a while back, even though I'm posting it now. Didn't want to alter what's mentioned, but I had an exciting update to share. I have a deluxe sized sample of Urban Decay Naked glosses. Those aren't pigmented or too glossy, but very comfortable to wear and they turn into a balm or chapstick consistency when worn for an extended period of time. Hence, they don't slide off easily and last fairly long even for a translucent coverage. I am over the moon to declare these glosses as a closer dupe! Yayie!! Urban Decay ones are inexplicably richer in there formula, but for a dirt-cheap price tag, these ones are way similar in performance and delivering the balm-like consistency.

YESTERDAY'S FAVORITE - The lipstick is a cool-toned bright red. Although the swatch looks overly bright & neon due to direct exposure to the natural light, it is a tad deeper than what my camera captured. Beautiful, nonetheless! The gloss has loads of golden shimmer and a sheer red-pink base. It is one of the most pigmented of the bunch. One swipe gives you a semi-opaque coverage. You can build that up for more punch of color. This one is a lovely red color on all skin tones. However, it would look pinker and brighter on darker skin tones. This is closer to satin-matte formula, but it dries into matte. It is not uncomfortable or patchy, but I made a mental note of wearing it over my MAC Prep & Prime Lip Primer the next time for smoother coverage in Winters. The gloss doesn't do justice to the awesomeness that is this lipstick. I wore it over the lipstick and didn't like the outcome due to the gold flecks shining over red color. To be fair, the shimmer was not overly visible, but still heavier than other lip glosses of the same range. The lip gloss combo might suit younger girls who want to venture into mildly bold reds. It's not my thing. *sigh* The lipstick wore on me for 3+ hours without meals. I have not worn it for extended period to tell if it fades evenly. Usually, I wipe it off myself. The lipstick would have been an A for me, but the lip gloss combo pulled down its rating, I believe:

EVERYTHING'S ALRIGHT - You know what, it is not. But let me explain the color first. The lipstick shade is peachy coral with a creamier formula as compared to other shades. Not the satin-matte. It takes nearly 3 swipes to make it opaque. The gloss has sheer base with a hint of peach and golden shimmers. When applied, the gloss looks like a simple transparent gloss with golden sparkle. Not my cup of tea, exactly, but it does look good over the combo. I loved the shade when I swatched it. I thought I have found a wearable daily coral that will make me go easy on MAC Impassioned. Sadly, it was just wishful thinking. On the lips, the formula accentuated the dry patches. The application was streaky. The more I tried applying and evening it out, the more trouble it gave me. Finally, I blotted on a tissue and applied the gloss to smoothen things over a little. It did make it wearable for like an hour maximum. After that, the patchy patcherson returned and I wiped off the lipstick. The next time I wore a lip balm underneath and just did one swipe. The color payoff wasn't too good with the balm. Still, it worked better that way as a nice color to your lips for daily routine. That decreased its wear-time, though. It lasts over 1-2 hours on me that way without eating/drinking. After that it requires "careful" re-application. It has found a place in the back of my stash till I deal with my better options.

ANTICIPATE IT - My favorite yummy-berry tones <3 The lipstick which looks awfully dark on the webstore is a hot berry-plum shade that everyone should have in their stash. Berry is the new Red, as I might say :-P The gloss has ghost of a sheer berry tint which is almost negligible when swatched or applied on lips. It has pink-gold fine shimmer like other glosses as well.
I have only used this lipstick a couple of times, but I have become a big fan. It is creamier with a slight sheen to it. I don't find it particularly moisturizing, but comfortable to wear. After a while, it does become satin-matte. In terms of color payoff, the first swipe delivers a true berry tone. It has less burgundy/deep pink undertones than the swatch in natural light. You can make it richer by swiping multiple times to your desired color. Those scared of Berry colored lipsticks appear too dark on the pigmented lips must give this a shot. It is muted and complements our skin tones. The first time I wore this, I didn't apply the lip gloss - thinking the flecks of shimmer will take the "seriousness" out of this dominatingly-mature color. Well, I "lol-ed" hard the next time on my past self - because the glossy shimmer doesn't show up on my lips and makes the lipstick much more exciting. With time, it turns into a balm like consistency and starts fading evenly overall. Since I had meals while having the lipstick + gloss on me, it started to fade from the inner middle of my lips. With the lip primer underneath, the stay of the lipstick only is around 4 hours and a berry-pink tint to the lips. I was expecting more longevity with this color. Without primer the lipstick lasts 2-3 hours and a residual tint. With gloss and meals, it faded when I ate after 2 hours of wearing it, but had an uneven tint left. Easier to reapply.

!!!Update!!! It is a fairly close (and CHEAP) dupe of the famous MAC Rebel *you're welcome*

LIFE IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT - I appreciate the team effort in naming these bad boys instead of the alpha-numeric identities. A less wordy name would have been good though! Coming to the good stuff, the lipstick is somewhat emolient and creamier than others in the range. Thankfully, it is not streaky when applied. The finish of the lipstick is creamier than "satin-matte". I didn't find it drying when worn, but closer to its fading, my lip lines were a bit prominent. I don't blame the lipstick for it though - it might as well be my lack of proper exfoliation. This color is super gorgeous. I initially thought the lipstick would look too neon on my skin. It is not crazily pigmented, so you do get to build the color up as per your liking. It could be a thumbs-down for those who want closer to opaque color payoff in first swipe. Using a balm underneath naturally increases your need to swipe the lipstick more. It lasts around 2-3 hours without fading (no food/drinks). The lip gloss is the most pigmented of the bunch. It has very fine shimmer particles which don't show up when applied. They will appear when the gloss/lipstick is wearing off. Since the color matches the lipstick, it gives nice richness to it. Ironically, the lip gloss I love the most gave me residual glitter problem. Not too obvious, but I did notice it when I was removing my makeup with the wipes. The gloss improves the pigmentation, but decreases the wear time somewhat. I particularly love this combo since it doesn't look too neon flashy pink. Even the faint hearted can try this at home ;-) I have worn this gloss alone as well, I liked the milky natural pink balm to my lips - which DID NOT appear to be too "Nicki Minaj" on me. Yay!

CAN'T ESCAPE ME - This is the least used lipstick-gloss combo for me from the bunch. Primarily because the color does not flatter my yellow-toned skin and pigmented lips. The lipstick is a mauve undertoned pale pink. The finish is satin-matte, but it has the tendency to be streaky when over-done. It shows up a little in the first swipe and that's the best one for me. When swatching on my lip as a trial, I built it up and it settled in my fine lines a little. Since it washes me out, if I sheer it out with heavier eye makeup, that's the only way it works. Although I don't wear lip liners of any sort often, I still recommend if you wear it as a slight ombre with your natural lip color pencil, it would certainly look very posh. The wear time of the lipstick isn't quite impressive either - mainly because I just used one swipe of it. It lasted 1-1.5 hours on me, after that light traces. The lip gloss has sheer nude-pink base with silver particles. The spray of shimmer is more pronounced in this one. When paired together, the lip combo does not do much for me - except for that one time when I paired it with black smokey eyes and silver jewelry. Still, the commonfolk in our part of the world don't appreciate nude washed out lips. It might be best suited for fair skinned beauties who want a very light color to the lips at college/work. I'd pass on this one.

There you go with my roundup of the Makeup Revolution Lip Power. Some of these are a must-have to carry in your purse or travel bag. Most of these have a comfortable formula that can work for your office, university or even casual wear. Since there are other more long-lasting options in the market, I would not suggest these for formal events (especially where food is involved). Makeup Revolution Lip Power range is exclusively available at Reforma.PK and Daraz.PK for PKR 550 only!

Have your tried these? Which ones of these excite you the most? Let me hear it!

Cheers,

Bia
